An quick effective solution for tapered steel light pole foundations has been developed by Screwpile Australia. Mass concrete footings with rag bolt cages are now superseded by faster easier and cheaper fully engineered steel screw-in foundation.   A comprehensive range of foundations is available to suit single poles up to from 6.0 to 22 meters and for towers up to 50 meters. A single screwpile option is available for bending moment loads up to 120kNm (SWL).

No other foundation construction method is as fast.  For poles up to 22 meters in height a screw-in foundation can be installed and ready to accept the pole in approximately 30 minutes!  Other major advantages include the potential of pole erection immediately after the foundation is wound into the ground by the same machine that installed the screwpile.  Electrical contractors have the potential of substantially increasing project speed and reducing overall costs.

Screwpile foundations are available in black product or galvanised. Base plate configuration is to suit the selected pole base plate type. Connection of pole to foundation is via Grade 8.8HT. bolts and adjusting/locking nuts. Foundations are fitted with cable entry slots for easy cable access and connection.

 The bending moment and shear value loads of a particular pole type selected, and the expected ground conditions, determine the type of screwpile required.   Screwpiles are suitable for most ground conditions, even unstable grounds such as ex-rubbish tip site commonly used as sporting fields etc.

Important Note: In designing the foundation a standard allowance of 400mm is made for a cable access trench to be excavated to the screw-in foundation. Trench excavation effects ground compaction and no founding value is to be calculated for this zone as the disturbance may otherwise compromise the foundations performance.
