Transmission / Communications Towers
|
Tall structures such as radio masts and transmission towers are subject to
appreciable overturning moments due to wind loading. These overturning moments
are generally resisted by deep piles or large mass footings designed to carry
both compressive and tensile couple forces. These footings
can be costly or require large areas of land. Screwpiles grouped together with
a reinforced concrete pile cap which also acts as a base for the
superstructure, is an effective way of carrying the load actions on such tall
structures.
