Three recent completed projects in Margaret River
Western Australia have revealed that not only good wine flows from the
region. Screwpile Australia were engaged on separate occasions to provide
preliminary pile probe testing to determine that 25 and 50 tonne screwpiles
were required at varying depths of up to 15 metres.
The site was well
known for its spring water and very loose clays.
Testing indicated that the
depth of the water and clays was well beyond that which would normally be
expected. The photo to the upper left graphically shows clay with the consistency
of custard flowing freely up the pile after installation due to hydrostatic
water pressures. A total of 60 x 50 to 25
tonne x 15 metre deep screwpiles were installed in just 4 days, all without
intrusion or structural disturbance to adjoining
businesses and residential buildings.
In the latest project 250 x 6 tonne screwpiles up to 4.5m
deep were installed for a new holiday resort. Screwpiles were
specified due to the existence of peat and organic matter at depth. A
purpose designed bobcat with an extension boom took 4.5 days to install the
piles.
